This is a cotton Buddhist pilgrim's jacket. The jacket was worn by a pilgrim on their journey to Shikoku island as they attempted to visit all 88 shrines on their holy journey. This jacket has dozens of red cinnabar seals, indicating all the shrines and temples that were visited. It is in well worn and excellent condition save for a small black ink stain on one of the sleeves.
