Kain Kaligrafi. Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia.
20th century batik cloth with stylized calligraphy. Used as a ceremonial shroud or a ritual shoulder cloth. The striped pattern along each end is typical of Jambi batik design. Probably produced in Cirebon for Sumatran export. Hand-drawn wax resist-dyed batik-tulis on fine terracotta coloured cotton. some damage to centre crease. Early to mid 20th c. Size:210x86cm.
