sasigyo. Burma/Myanmar. "Woven words" (sasigyo or sarsekyo - sanskrit: "100 words") ‘sazigyo’ were tablet-weaving of text woven tapes or ribbons used for binding the leaves of palm-leaf manuscripts.
“Sasigyo” is a Burmese tablet-woven cord which is used to bind Buddhist scriptures. In Burmese the word literally means “cord for tying manuscript leaves into bundles.” These pieces have not been woven in Burma for many years, with very few written records about their history;
The sasigyo are just one part of an integrated and complex artistic craft tradition surroundingtheBurmeseBuddhistscripturescalledkammavaca.2. Thesescriptures, which pertain to the regulation of Buddhist monastic life, were often commissioned by devout lay persons and presented to a monastery, thus generating religious merit for the lay person
This one, with writings and drawings, kind of doodles, is cm 455 long and 2 wide. One smaller tear/mouse bite, otherwise in good condition. ref SAZ2DR
