a wonderful early east turkestan, possibly kashgar, carpet fragment with a masterful colour palette and a rare border -hans bidder shows an early khotan with a similar border in his book, tafel xviii, and please see also an early chinese carpet in "glanz der himmelssoehne" koeln 2005, page 45- such a prolific use of a nicely abrashed light green and this beautiful apricot hue are rarely seen on xinjiang rugs. remakable red and shapphire blue, there is also a few amount of gold yellow in some places. its charisma is not unreminiscent of some mogul carpets. the foundation is all cotton with depressed warps. please note also the nicely and precisely drawn secondary borders. around 1700, without any restoration and all the frayed edges and holes are secured. some pics taken outside show some shadows or overexposure. about 200x 200cm. it is also interesting to remark that a diminutive version of this border design with only 2 half lotus flowers is encountered as secondary border by carpets from the kangxi era.
