This watercolor was done as part of a set of ethnographic paintings by a Russian artist during a Central Asian expedition in the ealry 30"s It is a nice thing and very well done. It was done somewhere in Uzbekistan and i got it from there ten years ago. My guess is that it was a posed scene at a market or village, as the differences in the "Look" of the people doesn't seem to indicate a single tribal grouping, but who knows? The artist excellently captured different facial expressions of the people, and the rugs and kelims spread out on the roof are an authentic touch, and further indicating that it was at a market place.....Check out the close-ups and the full shot with frame...It is a very good thing! Size: 10" x 7"; With Frame, 14" x 17"
