Very Fine Antique Mazlaghan Rug Region: Western Persia Size 2.10m x 1.36m Circa 1890. Rugs woven in the Hamadan district, in particular from Mazlaghan were generally coarsely woven. The typical design from this village is with an elongated ‘stellar’ medallion. The region around Hamadan traditionally offers a plethora of knotted qualities and patterns, woven to varying degrees of quality, no doubt due to the nature of the local wool used. This example is however, exceptionally fine, comparable in quality to contemporary finer Malayer rugs. The piece presented in a very good state of preservation.
