Fine Antique Abadeh Rug Fars Province,Southern Persia Circa 1900 Size 1.42 x 1.07m To the laymen’s eyes, rugs made in the Abadeh area have a strong similarity to rugs woven by the Shiraz tribes, albeit generally woven to a finer degree. This rug is woven on a cotton foundation, suggesting a post 19th century weaving date. What sets the rug apart is its high knot density, relative concise symmetry, which is comparable to the finer rugs woven in Arak, from the Sarouk or Ferahan areas. An excellent example of how even ‘tribal’ rugs, could be woven to an exemplary standard.
