An exceptional 16th/ 17th century Western Anatolian fragment woven with an adept mastery of design and color. This piece represents an extraordinary design type from which several known later Central Anatolian types including a piece from the Alexander collection with the so-called 'whirling motif' derive. Though still a fragment, this piece is both a compelling composition in its own right and an important example of Anatolian weaving during a formative period.
