This large and deep Turkmen chuval has many characteristics of an early collectible piece: lots of offset symmetric knotting, spacious drawing with nicely shaped guls, saturated aubergine/brown red ground, apricot-rose madder dye, two indigo blues, glowing emerald green and very pale yellow dyes. Dense weave with areas of wear, a couple of small holes that have been poorly darned long ago, rough selvages and corners. No restoration. First half 19c.
