The first arrival from my recent finds in Anatolia and Cappadocia in September. a late 19th-early 20th century Pirot/Chiprovski/Sharkoy group kilim with the asymmetric tree/branch/flower/bird motifs from Western Bulgaria or nearby in the same region across the border in Yugoslavia/Serbia. The first photo is upside down!

Woven in two parts, each 27" wide, which makes this kilim unusual and confirms it is an earlier home produced kilim woven on a narrow loom, rather than a later workshop or collective piece which used full width looms. Very well drawn graphics and good contrast.

In worn condition, with areas of rewoven corroded organic black, the reweave the lighter areas in the border and small areas of missing black weft, all as visible in closeup photos (see link below). An interesting antique and collector’s kilim, suitable for display or wall hanging, not the floor. Size 204cm x 138cm.
