Rug Pickers find as found: a 1920's Navajo rug measuring 5'10"x 3'8" that i can't pinpoint to a certain grouping or classification. i want to say Yei, but that's probably not correct...the rug employs the body of a "winged Messenger"...unusual. It is an ambitious weaving that really captures my eye...have not seen anything like it. One of you Navajo rug experts will know exactly what this is I'm sure. i know it has the Churro wool. Probably has a combination of Natural/vegetable and aniline dye's. The wool is twisted real tight and fine, no hairs, has 10-14 wefts and 8-10 warps per inch. It doesn't have a a side or a b side...both sides have the same color intensity. However, different colors on each side have decided to bleed, which is very common with Navajo rugs...even the very best Navajo rugs bleed. Needless to say, a very beautiful and striking Native American Rug with an abundance of culture being conveyed through this particular pattern. The colors have an incredible range, from Navy blues to the nice dark browns, etc, etc. All in all, I'd say this rug is in pretty good shape The first two pictures are of one side and the other. 3 of the 4 corners need work, small sections of both ends need work, one small section of one side needs some work, some reds and oranges and other colors have run, small little tear, and one longer surface tear that appears to have cut the wefts and not the warps, some stains and unknown substance that i can scratch off with my finger nails...needs a cleaning. Beautiful rug. I had to remove a bunch of pics to post this rug....so, i can email pics to who ever is interested. Thanks!
