i bought this silk-on-silk embroidery in Istanbul almost ten years ago, and at the time i was informed that it was from Syria. I'm looking for any information possible about this item, purely for interest's sake, since i sold it years ago. The original fabric is a plaid woven silk, and the embroidery work is monochrome, incredibly fine, and very, very extensive. a carpet repairman who saw the piece estimated that it would have taken a year's labour of an expert craftsman. The piece is intact, but the condition is very fragile; i would estimate that it dates from the late nineteenth, or more probably, the early twentieth century. Any information would be appreciated.
