Mid 19th century east Anatolian killim from Reyhanli of unusual design.

Although some might identify the main motifs as elibelinde or hands on hips motifs, i wondered if in this kilim they might be derived from Ottoman carnation motifs but these are normally doubled/reflected. a friend has suggested that they are more likely vulture motifs, associated with the 'Goddess', as is the elibelinde motif. The jury is still out! i have not come across the meander bands bordering the alternating 'elibelinde' motfs in a Reyhanli kilim. In completely original good unrestored condition with corroded weft in some of the stripes. As goes without saying in a kilim of this age, all natural dyes. Size 350cm x 88cm.
