Rare and interesting late 19th century or early 1900s Cumra kilim with expressive drawing of intriguing motifs in the field which are perhaps variants of double winged elibelinde. From the village of Alibey Höyuk (or Huyugu) in central Anatolia south of Konya, near the ancient Neolithic settlement of Çatal Höyuk, famous for James Melaart’s excavations and the ongoing interest in the Anatolian mother goddess. Wool on a wool warp with additional use of white cotton and çiçim embroidered motifs. In very good condition with some reweaving of corroded brown weft in the lower half of the kilim. Size 175 x 132cm.
