Unique and highly collectable Yomud Turkmen Mafrash or Kap. 1st half the 19th century. i am unaware of others in this design and format. Pieces in related designs are also rare and pretty much all made by the Tekke. This piece is clearly Yomud and has good age. It may be the only Yomud example in this design known, certainly i have not seen another. The wool is fine, with a nice patina. The softness of the wool and unusual color tones are striking and set this piece apart from the more saturated Tekkie pieces with related designs. Its distinctive and appealing coloration reminds me of a great old Yomud tent band i had a number of years ago as to palette. The inner field panel with quartered diamonds is quite dynamic as the diamonds combine in various interesting ways. The eye tends to play with them and in combination, they form eight pointed stars, odd squares and other forms. There are “marker knots” in white running up the center of the field. This is a rare, unique Turkmen piece very collectable with real charisma. It proved hard to capture the true color sense of this piece for some reason, but he mellow and soft tones in the piece are very appealing and part of the rustic charm of this weaving. The piece is of course much better in person. This is a very high level Turkmen weaving acquired from an important and well known collection. The size is: 23 x 13.75 inches. It is mounted and that size is 26.5 x 19 inches. This is a piece the would fit in any good Turkmen collection. The price has been reduced since my previous posting
