Kyrgyz bashtyk (bag face), 24" x 21" (60.9 x 53 cm), this weaving displays the simplicity of design, squarish dimensions, and limited range of color typical of bashtyk of the period, the field design is known as karakalpak nuska to Kyrgyz weavers, the dyes are all natural, clear and deeply saturated, the foundation, warps and wefts, consist of undyed sheep's wool with substantial amounts of what is probably yak hair, the condition is excellent, full pile, no wear or repairs. Bashtyk with a similar field design are published in the Kyrgyz Carpet, Vol. 2, l.g. Beresneva, State Museum of Oriental Art, Moscow, p. 62. pl. 37 and Carpets of the People of Central Asia, Moshkova, p. 134, figure 54.
