This circa 1910 Peking Chinese Oriental Rug measures 8’1” x 9’10” (246 x 302 cm). It has a very unique design. The field is a medium blue with a very formal layout of a leaf design in light blue. The field is in the shape of a four lobed cross. There is an interior small border consisting of crowns or stars. The next border out is to me absolutely unique. It is about 1 ½’ wide in dark café au lait and the designs appear to be some sort of writing although i am sure they are not. They have to been seen to be understood. The corners are worked in a pale café au lait consisting of a peacock standing on one leg on a blue ball. Its wings are spread out and its tail is fully open. a cute little side bar on the peacocks (which by the way are very well drawn) is they are gazing at the viewer in profile. The eye is open but seems to be giving a very big sexy wink. The corners above the peacocks have a triangle filled with a four pointed star on a terra cotta ground resting on a chevron looking very much like a sergeants stripes. The entire rug is encompassed with an almost navy blue border. This rug, although it is over 100 years old, has the appearance of never having been walked upon. It is absolutely mint. The pile is full and the ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $100.
