#7587 Lenkoran Prayer Rug This 3rd quarter 19th century Lenkoran Prayer rug measures 3’5” x 4’11” (106 x 150 cm). To my knowledge this is a unique motif for this type of rug. Lenkorans, as you know, always come in runners. This may have actually started out as a runner in the mind of the weaver. As you see, there is one large ivory Lenkoran medallion with octagonal figures at the top and bottom in red and blue. Above the upper octagons you can see the beginning of another Lenkoran medallion which is stopped by the prayer niche. Seems to me the weaver stopped in the middle of the runner. Perhaps something bad happened in his life so to get right with G-d he changed his mind and made a prayer rug. The niche and the spandrels are interesting. The niche is green which is a religious color to Muslims. The spandrels in blue are filled with Memling guls. The major ivory border is filled with Lazy s in red, brown and green. The inner reciprocal is red and the outer reciprocal is green. They are filled with flowers. The ends have been worked on. The sides are complete and original. This is a one of t a kind rug! This rug is full pile. The ends and sides are complete. The rug is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping which includes insurance. http://www.antiqueorientalrugs.com/caucasian2.htm
