a very unique antique Uzbek Bukhara silk embroidered dervish hat dating to second half of 19th century. The Sufi dervish / yogi / mystical spiritual religious men of Central Asia were very interesting and wore symbolic garments that reflected detachment from the real world in order to achieve the state of nirvana. Their pointy hats were often one of their distinctive features. They are very rare to find and were often ritualistic and used than decorative and pretty. This particular example has wonderful simplistic silk embroidery on line repeating in various soft colours. There is a remnants of a hair on the top, symbolic. It is finished with silk warp / cotton weft ikat edging. a really nice and rare ethnographic piece. size: 20cm (8") diameter of the hat. 16.5cm (6.5") height.
