Nim suzani, 19th c (4th q), Uzbekistan
This pleasing Central Asian embroidery,or suzani, draws a prayer niche with an open field on a golden silk ground. Stylized green foliage encapsulates artfully drawn flowers, perhaps carnations, which are traced in profile using tones of pink and blue. The word 'nim' literally means 'half' and is used to designated smaller suzanis. Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Wendel Swan.
