#7461 Kuba This circa 1850 Kuba measures 3’9” x 5’5” (114 x 165 cm). It has a lattice work motif containing a dozen different floral designs on a reddish brown ground which is similar to a burnt sienna or cordovan in color. This is surrounded by 4 very interesting borders i have not seen before and cannot really put a name on. The first and third borders are on an ivory ground containing a flower or very odd looking bird motif. The second border coming out is the widest and therefore major border and consists of very angular images such as J’s, hooks, and semi-asterisks with highlights in green and blue on a lovely abrashed ground of burnt coral. The outer border is a wide typically drawn barber pole design found in lots of Kubas. There are small repairs in the rug mainly visible from the back. They are well done and i don’t think they get in the way of the enjoyment of this definitely 1850’s rug. The sides have been rewrapped. The ends, although complete, have had a bit of work done. The pile is acceptable. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance.http://www.antiqueorientalrugs.com/caucasian2.htm
