Ladik Prayer Rug, 1st Qtr. 19th c.3'5" x 5'4"An early Ladik prayer rug., circa 1800, with an unusual treatment of the mihrab. The customary stepped sides of the arch have been simplified and rise diagonally towards the top. For a similar example, see Sotheby's Carpets catalog, New York 11 June 2008, lot #5. There is a lovely soft color palette in addition to the rich central "Turkey red" consistent with rugs of this age and type. Capturing them in a photo is a challenge. Obvious old repairs, it remains a glorious testament to the refined taste of Ottoman culture.
