a very interesting antique Uzbek silk embroidered suzani / susani dating to the last quarter of 19th century. This is one of a handful of examples of suzanis i have seen that was made in Bukhara but boasts design elements of silk on silk Shahrisabz suzanis. The central medallion field surrounded with four flowers on each corner is a classic form seen in Shahrisabz suzanis (which some wrongly call Lakai). But this piece is Bokhara in every respect. These cross breed examples for me who have seen thousands of suzanis, make them very relevant. The fine silk chain stitched embroidery on karbos (hand woven cotton) ground is done beautifully. The medallion borders and the soft natural colours is just a delight. It is a nim-suzani so a perfect size for hanging. The overall condition is fair with some ground wear and abrasion of embroidery... but honestly it doesn't distract. a good piece for collectors and offered at a fair price. size: 150cm x 118cm (59" x 46.5")
price:  Fair
