Uzbek carpet sometimes referred to as a dschulchir or "bear skin" rug because of the typically, long thick pile. This type of rug has been described as having a "warp faced back" meaning that the back of the rug shows only the warps of the rug without the knots being visible. This weaving structure has ancient origins in Central Asia. They are usually woven in several strips on narrow ground looms often used to produce tent bands and other warp-faced woven materials used in nomadic culture. This example is composed of four separately woven strips sewn together to make the whole. Size: 43 x 86 inches.
