Rare Herki kilim from Hakkari area in Eastern Anatolia, Turkey. Cm 75x210. Kurdish, very primitive, very coarse, most probably used as a cover of a seating place. Dyes seem to be all natural, except for a suspicious pink. Many small restorations and reweaves. You can see a similar, though younger piece at the Vakiflar Museum in Istanbul. The story behind: about 40 or 45 years ago i was in a small rug shop at the Khyber Baazar in Peshawar talking to Haji Abdullah. Next to him there was a sofa with a strange kilim on. I've never seen a piece like that before. He said his father brought it back from his haj pilgrimage to Mecca many years before.
