An exceptional and rare antique Imperial Chinese Dragon Robe made for a child / young boy. It dates to the 19th Century Qing Dynasty (pronounced Ching / Tsing) dynasty and to find a children's dragon robe is quite rare. The gold dragons are made of couched gold threads and the silk embroidery is in satin stitched. The silk embroidery has gorgeous colours which are all derived from vegetable and mineral dyes. The design of empowering dragons (three in front, theee in back and two over the shoulders) have beautiful details. The workmanship is all professional and there is no replacements. The entire piece is original with original blue silk damask lining and gold buttons. The brown silk ground suggests that the father of the boy would have been either a duke or son in law of the emperor. Often children's dragon robes were made like a miniature version of an adult one. Notice the waves and the large flowers on the trim reflect that. i have shown this piece, to two of the leading experts in the world in Chinese silk textiles, who both liked and authenticated it. So it is a pretty good piece, with an interestingly long provenance. It is in pretty good condition and worthy of any good collection. size: Sleeve to Sleeve= 123cm (48") and Neck to bottom 74cm(29").
