Salor Torba, 132 x 42 cm, late 19 th. century. Fairly late piece with the "chemle" design. These motifs are believed to be stylized bats and the bag is perhaps meant to enhance night vision during desert excursions in darkness. Controversial piece. Obviously made after the dissolution of the main Salor tribe. However, this torba has the characteristics of a genuine Salor weaving. Thick, heavy pile, compact weave, ribbed backside and less pliable than any of the other Turkomen weavings. Dyes: natural and synthetic.
