Shashavan,c.1860, West Persia,Kurdish Tribe. 293x92 cm. This is not a runner, but one of the traditional formats of ancient Persian Nomad-rugs. Restaurations: sides have been secured and several blue area's reknotted with natural colored wool. Of particual interest, for a collector, is the following: One of the oldest known Persian Nomad textiles was in the former Vok-collection,see image above, dated by H.Sadighi from before the 18th.c. Comparison with this piece shows that we have here virtually the same design embellished with many details -some very original and unknown- made possible because it is not a kilim, but a knotted rug. In my view and experience it will be next to impossible to find a comparable piece with this ancient format and design.
