Early, Rare and Beautiful! 1800 P-Chodor fragmented Torba, 1'1" x 3'7", Exceptionally well drawn, these early Yomud weave Proto Chodor weavings are extremely rare. With delicately extended necks topped with precise bird heads and a top feather or horn, these precursors to the less gracious Ertmen Guls of the mid-to late 19th century exhibit a spacial design understanding and elegance on par with the best of late 18th Turkoman weavings. From the unusually stated secondary motifs having an elegance of form that implies movement to the beautifully floating flower heads effortlessly arranged around the secondary motifs in a floating manner unseen on the later, cramped or vine connected examples. The field is akin to a superb painting with a high degree of spatial understanding lost on later examples. The main border transitions from linked insect forms on the top main border to linked insect forms with double animal heads on the side borders. The minor borders share the same spacial ascetic as the field, an open reaching vine design with slightly curled end vines, switching directions where they meet at small unadorned square boxes. It has an exceptionally wide range of beautiful dyes including brown red, rust red, pink-red, un-dyed ivory wool, dark blue, an old green-blue, pale yellow and a sparing use of golden orange knots. It has an exceedingly fine weave of 230+ symmetrical knots per square inch on a gray and brown hair non-depressed warp with two shoots of brown wool weft. The back has a leathery handle while the front is tightly packed and precise in execution. The hard life this 200+ year old jewel has lived is self evident. It has been cleaned, all areas have been stabilized and it has been mounted on cloth backed by foam board. An inspection area has been left open on the rear. There is some paint residue that appears as a pale white whisper in the top right corner, otherwise it is stable and stunningly beautiful as it is, ready for your wall.
