Meshkin - Ardebil, around 1910. Antique. Misterious rug.
Very interesting pattern of a field filled with Simogh the mystical fire bird. What looks like a plant or flower is in fact an abstracted depicture of Simorgh. With golden yellow on a black ground.
Fine, rather high pile for it's age. Kilim headings. Borders intact.
Natural colors, nice purple, the black is somewhat corroded - should be, natural black colors contain by nature ironchoride what makes the wool brittle.
Caucasian culture, the Ardebil area belongs to the Caucasian area, culturally.
Nice contrasting border with a white ground and a vigne meander.
225 x 75 Cm. 7.5 feet x 2.5 feet.
