In the Central Asian Republics, people have made amulets in the shape of a triangle using felt, cloth or silver and used these talismans in various ways. Nomadic tribes, such a the Turkoman attach them to clothing and animal trappings in order to appease supernatural elements, protect against harm and bring good luck or harmony. These talisman came in a variety of sizes and were often embroidered and often carried a few grains of salt or a holy verse. This talisman is embroidered with silk floss on a stained light silk backing (amulet contains spices or tea which may account of the staining). The colors of the embroidery suggest this was made by a Chodor Turkoman bride, wife and or mother - the tassels are a very new addition to the talisman - a lovely piece of old tribal art. The piece measures 5" wide by 6 1/2" from top to tassel.
