Southern Netherlands, Belgian Hainaut ( Henegouwen) with the coat of arms of the town Anderlues.
Dated 1607. Created by 16th century people. Really pure Renaissance. In Anderlues Linen was a profitable industry. it made people rich.
These professionals were mostly Protestant. They were bloody persecuted by French Catholics. As a result, many fled to the Protestant Netherlands.
In the city of Leiden emerged a thriving Linen industry and business.
With lots of Linen workers from Flanders and southern Belgium.
This cabinet was in a basement in Leiden.
Owned by an old lady with e name of french decent.
That is why i like antiques, it is about something.
The left image is the goddess of Justice, (sword) the right side the goddess of hope and love. (anchor and pigeon) There are Griffins, Poseidon, Saint George and the Dragon, and more.
