Tuareg leather womans travel bag ("aghrig"), with hand worked and dyed leather, probably goat skin. Intricate leather work with check pattern cut into dyed skin and embroidered thread patterns. The green dyed leather colour is considered protective by the tuareg and is prepared from a mixture of iron oxide, lemon, goat hair, nut oil and copper sulphate. Due to the copper sulphate it resists the strong sunlight. The yellow is made from plants, brass filings, milk powder, millet, salt and butter. The red is achieved by a mixture of sorghum, natron and water. In very good overall condition. One of the plaited leather shoulder straps is missing. Similar pieces can be found in the ethnographic museum in Neuchatel.
