Back
Tibetan Gyoyu or ‘throne back’. Tibetan lama’s throne back carpet featuring three five clawed dragons. The red colour could signify that it was used by a lama from one of the so-called ‘Red Hat’ sects (i.e. Nyingma, Sakya & Kagyu). Rare to find this style of carpet made in Tibet itself (as opposed to Ningxia). Natural dyes, wool warp and weft, circa 1920. Bought in Kathmandu circa 1972 and now on the market for the first since then, having been held in a single private collection for past 58 years. There are no repairs or / restorations. Size 67cm x 64cm (26.5” x 25”). Collectors item.
