Complete warp-faced patterned Andean coca bag. a.d. 900 - 1200. The design is primal - made by simply alternating warp yarns to create a "zipper-like" pattern. This is a way of patterning a textile that is as ancient as it gets and there is something very satisfying about the proportions and weaving of this bag that is just right. No dyes were used in the body of the coca bag - just undyed natural alpaca fiber yarns. The double cloth strap and the tubular edge binding however both have some cochineal dyed red and pale yellow dyed yarns. This is a nice authentic native piece. Warp-faced weaving at its simplest. Size: 7.5 x 8.5 inches.
