Back
Chinese table screen plaque, hand carved, lovely pale lavender jade, jadeite, with russet inclusions, a 4 clawed dragon in profile, with bulbus nose and retracted lower jaw, undulates through the squat rounded clouds, pursuing a flaming pearl, instead of carving a flaming pearl, the artist has cut the block so that the russet inclusion corresponds to the spot where the flaming pearl would have been, this required forethought on the part of the artist, the jade is semi-translucent, and when it sits on my desk, the thicker dragon body pops out against the thinner jade background, general good condition, with small abrasions on raised areas, it is very hard to date jade, i think it was carved some time in the 20thC, the approximate size is 4 and 1/4 inches x 1 and 7/8 inches, #3229, shipping is extra
