Antique Ersari Carpet, ca. 1870; 6’10 x 8’10” / 178 x 269 cm Beautiful 19th Century example with strong madder reds and different shades of teal, green, and mint. 18 quartered guls with clubs, each containing a “magic plant” with eight spiky star shaped blooms branching around a diamond or hexagon. The same totemic trees serve as secondary elements between the guls, in the 5th row accompanied by tertiary border designs or diamonds. Both minor borders transition near lower end. Two patches in the lower kilim; wear to fold creases; otherwise wear commensurate with age.
