Two Asiyut cloths or shawls, probably made in Egypt, early 20th c. Asiyut is a cotton mesh fabric embellished with hammered metal pieces. Very subtle geometric motifs in silver on white. The metal is wrapped around the mesh, and the ends are hammered under to hold the piece in place. This type of cloth, produced since biblical times, is named for the Asiyut region of Egypt, where it originated. Each is approx. 24" x 7'5".
