a Shahsavan pile bagface with field design most commonly seen in reverse sumac technique. a series of closure loops made of plaited blue wool are attached to the top edge—these would have interlocked with similar loops attached to the back. Bottom edge is flatweave folded back and hemmed. Wefts are fine cotton. Great condition, with some minor wear near the top edge where wefts are starting to show through in the flatweave above the pile. Colors all appear to be vegetal and stable, though the yellow ground color of the full hexagon at center left has a slight chartreuse tint on the back. Size is 18” x 19” (47cm x 49cm).
