Antique Caucasian Karabagh Chondzoresk region cloud band Kazak rug. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Size: 8ft 1in x 4ft 2in (246 x 128cm).
Circa 1890.
These rugs were woven by Armenian weavers in the Duchy of Khachen in the town of Chondzoresk, they are known as cloud band Kazaks due to the cloud band design within the medallions.
This example has a superb colour palette of natural dyes and is of the two medallion design, The two large medallions with indigo blue grounds stand out well against the soft madder red field. The field is filled with tribal design elements. The ivory ground border is of a classic Karabagh design.
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good thick long pile, the blacks are showing signs of corrosion.
The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.
