Back
a very stylish smaller screen featuring a simple, elegant design of ducks on a black river among golden clouds, 91cm x 167cm (36 x 66 inches). Old Tokyo gallery label to reverse, with an (unclear) artist attribution, possibly Genpo Morishina.
Circa 1920’s, the screen is in superb overall condition, with some shallow surface scratches to the lacquer border (not visible in most lights) and two small punctures to the back of one panel being the only apparent issues. The front of the screen is in original condition without repair, restoration or damage. The silk brocade border, a beautiful raspberry pink, is in superb condition with only very minimal wear, some slight sun fading in a strip across the top. (The brocade is unusually reflective, causing the appearance in the images of a loss of detail. This is purely a mechanical effect of glare in the camera).
