Door curtain– Tai-Dam or Tai Daeng - Houaphan province, Laos. Used as a door curtain for a bridal chamber. Striking naga design. The Naga/ mythological water serpent of magical and protective powers believed to save humans from misfortunes, rooted in the Buddhist and animistic belief system and feature prominently in local temple design. Naturally dyed cotton base with indigo thread weaving. The lower border of red tinged cotton with a colourful supplementary weft pattern of diamond repeats. Silk and cotton. Size: 70x64cm.
