One of the interesting finds from the collection i have just finished photographing following a trip to Turkey in April; an apparently rare type of Kurdish tribal rug (of which i also have an older fragment). Although i have not been able to find another published example, it appears that the rug is from Khorasan, so woven by the Quchan Kurdish tribe. Although a Sauj Bulag attribution has also been suggested, the border is more consistent with Quchan. Rippon Boswell sold a 19th century rug with the same type of gul in their auction on the 24th March 2012, Lot: 94. In good original condition with minor restoration including selvage edge binding. Circa third quarter 19th century, size 210x122cm.
