Afshar pile saltbag: a large solitary 'boteh,' or paisley, is colorfully drawn in pile to fill almost the entire field of this Afshar salt bag. As a flowering shrub is rendered in the center of the large paisley device, a similar abstracted red tree with stepped foliage is drawn against the neck of the salt bag. Much smaller 'boteh' are drawn surrounding and almost springing forth from the central larger element. Afshar pile salt bags are more rare than the flat woven varieties, and the elongated size of this piece is distinctive as well.
