There is no mistaking that this Merv Tekke weaving is red! It probably dates to the mid 19th century or before. It was published in the 1980 Tribal Visions catalog (Saunders) as plate 4a and was attributed to the Salor. The naturally dyed colors of this juval are radiant and the wool like velvet. The weave is very fine and supple with over 240 knots per square inch. The bright clear colors include three blues, with a light indigo blue that is exceptional. There are several reds in the piece and two colors of silk, an insect dyed rose red and a sky blue silk that was used sparingly. The clear yellow dyed wool has retained its color well and was combined with indigo to create a pleasing, soft blue green. the size is 30 x 49 inches. It is in excellent condition with original selvedges and only a little missing from the elem. This piece is priced well.
