Large Khmer Lacquer Box: Nice old large black and red lacquered Cambodian box with basketry side. Most arts and crafts were destroyed during the Khmer Rouge’s reign of terror and are just starting to make a comeback. This piece is circa 1950s or earlier with one old repair done to the side (see last 2 enlargements). These are very rare nowadays- i bought this piece in the “Russian Market”, Phnom Pehn about 20 years ago and even then they were difficult to come by. d: 29.5cm/11.3in and h: 17cm/6.8in.
