Antique Afshar rug of the type now referred to as "Outback Afshar" after the well known article in Hali #117. The rug has all the features of this type including many lazy lines on the back. The warp is wool mixed with goat hair and the weft is cotton. Knotting is Persian. The pile is high and full. There is some kilim at both ends and sides appear to be original. There are at least 11 colors in this rug which is very high for a tribal piece. As is noted in the cited article the red is strong but natural. Size is 4'2" x 6'6". This rug is in absolutely amazing condition for a 19th century rug.
