 Bag, Afshar, 83 x 66 cm. 2,7 ft. x 2.2 ft.
Mid 20th century. In perfect condition.
Kelim back.
iconographical interesting piece. The fire bird Simorgh and demons head together. These symbols occur more frequently together in 1 pattern. Dualism? good and bad? Cosmic balance in the forces- typical Zoroastische profound philosophy.
Ahura Mazda versus Ahriman the dark force. The universal interaction.
The red cock-like bird is Simorgh, the fire -bird also Phoenix.
The demonhead is obvious.
Simorgh is more often depicted as a more geometrical figure a double t.
Looks like a little plant.
Interesting to see how this profound whisdom and religion remaimd in all kind of tokens in the culture.
