This is a good thing! Published in Hali 100, page 113, plate 13 ( pictured before cleaning and conservation). The article, titled Feeding The Earth & The Ancestors, is an excellent discussion of the significance and uses of the coca bag within various Pre-Columbian Andean cultures. All bags featured in this article were top pieces so this is a good way to get a real understanding of this group of important textiles. This example is among the best I've seen of the type for iconography. The imagery features supernatural beings with rayed and winged headdress features. Snake imagery abounds in the "s" shaped motifs. Other images are of frog-like creatures. Snakes and frogs are emblematic of life giving water for the people of the high Andes.
