a beautiful and rare collection of ancient Egyptian Coptic textiles dating from 4th-8th century. These textiles were made in Egypt by Christians of Greco-Byzantine-Roman Egypt. The Coptic Christians migrated to Europe and later their designs influenced the European textile art. Each piece in this lovely collection demonstrates a slight unique weaving technique. We see human figures as well as geometric motifs. The colours are all natural dyes. It came from an ex-German collection put together in mid 20th century.
